Phew busy weekend

by happylady1 @ Monday, 30. Jun, 2008 - 18:44:47

Well what a weekend since finishing work last Thursday I haven't stopped but it feels good so much better than life when all I wanted to do was lay in bed all day, its just over two years since I started taking anti depressants and am starting to think perhaps about coming off them. If you've any experience of this let me know would be interested to hear how other people did it.

Anyhow back to the weekend. On Saturday I went to town with my ma and we went to the Millenium Galleries to see the Vivien Westwood exhibition. What a creative person she is although I don't quite understand where some of her ideas come from and some of her earlier stuff seems quite preoccupied with sexuality. It was really interesting and well worth going to. We then had lunch then did a bit of shopping. Saturday night me and hubby popped to our local for a couple of drinks which was really nice.

Sunday was a very mixed day. First thing I went to Morrisons for the food shop after having a coffee and unpacking the bags me and hubby went on a bit of a garden centre fest and had a lovely pork sandwich in one of the centres. We then came home and I did some housework before making dinner.

R&R came and I did a chinese kind of meal: lemon chicken, fried cabbages, stir friend veg, noodles and rice followed by Eton Mess, mmmmm. When it was time for them to go home I could feel the tears coming and managed to hold back till they drove off upon which I went sobbing to my hubby and needed a huge cuddle. Its strange without her!

Today I went to Meadowhall and had a good look round. To be honest there's not much in the sales but I had a nice couple of hours. This afternoon was cleaning the bathrooms time, followed by ironing which was nicely interrupted by R popping in for a coffee. After finishing the iron and sorted R's room and put up the newly laundered curtains and made the bed.

I've made a strawberry flan for tea which will follow mackerel, salad and new potatoes. To finish off I've finally managed to get some gardening done.

Hubby's just walked in so its off to the kitchen for me! See you soon.

End of an era - its hard being a parent!

by happylady1 @ Friday, 27. Jun, 2008 - 17:22:44

Well R&R got their house today and she's moved out. I shed some tears just before she went and managed to hold back the floodgates till she'd gone. They've bought a house 5 mins drive away from us so I know they're not far away but its awful seeing her room empty and her drawers cleared.

I went up to the house this afternoon to have a look round. Its a middle terrace but very spacious although its in need of a total redecoration and its filthy. So Reb got on with cleaning the kitchen and I volunteered to clear their bathroom. Boy I'd never seen such a scruffy bathroom before. The tiles were filthy, the toilet etc was scruffy but after two hours armed with Cillit Bang, bleach, toilet cleaner and a lot of elbow grease I left it gleaming. I couldn't bear for them to be in there and having to live with a filthy bathroom. So I left it sparkling and smelling of cleaning products so much fresher than before.

Had a bit of an episode with our son M. He works at a local pub and was supposed to be at work but decided to go AWOL as the bosses had really brassed him off. Anyway found out he and his mates had gone to Liverpool. He's just come bank and gone to work so I think he'll be in for some harsh words when he gets there. God its hard being a parent!

Back to work for a rest tomorrow(ha, ha!)

by happylady1 @ Monday, 23. Jun, 2008 - 21:36:28

Well that's my holiday over. I've been off work for 11 days now and just about every minute has been accounted for.

On Sunday we woke at 9.30 after having 11 hours sleep. The day was filled by popping to B&Q to get some garden compost, doing the supermarket shop and then after lunch cleaning the house, repotting some plants and planting some seeds. I made a chicken dinner which was finished off by home grown strawberries from our allotment mmmmmm.

Today I went with R to the hospital. She's got a balance problem and is having a series of tests to see how bad it is. After popping to Morrisons we came home, had lunch then sorted out even more laundry and cleaned the bathrooms. R&R are getting their house on Friday and they're going on holiday the Thursday after and R's so busy she's not going to have time to get all her ironing done so I did 1 1/2 hours of it this afternoon and that was just her T shirts. For tea me and hubby had salmon, rice, carrots and homegrown cabbage which I stir fried following by strawberries.

After tea me and hubby went down to the allotment as I needed to get some beetroot planted. Whilst hubby did some weeding I earthed the spuds up and 90 mins later I came home with more strawberries, some of which I've frozen, before having a lovely shower.

R's just come in from work with a bottle of wine which I've got a glass of in payment for the ironing. Think I'll sleep well tonight. xxxx

Wonderful Snowdonia - great holiday

by happylady1 @ Saturday, 21. Jun, 2008 - 17:01:49

Hi all, just got back from Wales and we've had a fab time. We were so lucky with the weather - it only rained (poured down) on Wednesday and so we built that into the schedule worked around it by going on the Ffestiniog railway and then onto the slate caverns at Llechweld (think thats the name) and still had a great day.

We stayed at a lovely B&B in Llanberis (thanks Martin and Sally for your hospitality). On Monday we popped into Llandudno and had a stroll round, lunched and then went up the Great Orme on the little tramcar.

Tuesday morning we were on the first train up Snowdon and boy it was cold up there. The train isn't going all the way to the top at the moment but it was still really good. In the afternoon we popped to Beaumaris and went around the castle before going back to Llanberis and walking round Lake Padarn - hubby reckoned it was a 4 mile walk but we reckon it was about 7.

On Thursday we walked half way up Snowdon and back down again. By the time we got to the halfway cafe it was too cloudy to carry on up to the top and to be honest by then we were knackered.

Yesterday we drove to Manchester and met N&G. We stayed at the Copthorne Hotel and after meeting them at midday we went round the Lowry art gallery and then onto the Great War Museum and it was really good. We finished off the day by going to Chinatown where we had the best Chinese ever.

Today we had a look round Manchester city centre and did a bit of retail therapy. We then started on the journey back to Shefield calling in at the Snake Pass Inn where we had a lovely meal - would recommend their bangers and mash. It was a lovely way to finish off our holiday and our time with N&G. We're going away for the weekend again with them in a couple of weeks to their caravan and we're really looking forward to that.

Am off now till Tuesday and I'm going to rest my weary feet. Would recommend a break to Snowdonia. See you soon

To Wales Away We Go

by happylady1 @ Sunday, 15. Jun, 2008 - 17:11:25

Phew, hubby got the car tanked up with petrol on his way home from work on Friday so off to Wales we go in the morning (keep fingers crossed for sunshine).

Me and R went to see Sex in the City on Friday. I've never seen the programme but still thought the film was fab. Quite poignant but very funny in parts too. Later that night we went to see Robby at our local but to be honest he wasn't that good. Anyway me and hubby had a couple of drinks and a nice evening together before coming home.

Yesterday, I felt a bit tired and did house things all day, same for today really but its been a nice chilling weekend.

Don't know about you but I've always got a book on the go. Currently I'm reading Last Chance Saloon by Mariam Keyes and its one of those books that you don't want to put down even though you're having trouble keeping your eyes open.

Tonight we're having a curry takeaway with the kids which will be nice. R&R will be getting their house soon so it may be sometime before we all sit down for a meal together again.

Well the bags are packed now and me and hubby are ready for the off. We'll be staying in a B&B in Llanberis. We plan to walk up Snowdon on Tuesday and we also want to visit Beaumariswhilst we're there. Here's hoping that the sun shines for us. See you soon

That's me on holiday then!

by happylady1 @ Thursday, 12. Jun, 2008 - 20:02:02

Fantastic, finished work today and don't go back until a week on Tuesday. Me and hubby are supposed to be off to north Wales on Monday but if we've no petrol we won't be going anywhere.

Been another busy week at work, our boss is back next week so hopefully the wheel's will start turning in the process of finding our team some extra secretarial support.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to have a lie in, hubby always brings me a coffee before he goes out and its lovely to have a drink and then curl up and have another snooze. In the morning I'm hoping to get some washing done and I've also got some gardening to do. In the afternoon me and R are going to the flicks to see Sex in the City. To be honest I've never seen the programme but R has and asked me to go with her so it'll be a nice girly afternoon.

Me and hubby are going to our local tomorrow night to see a Robbie Williams tribute which, we are told, is quite good.

So far I'm not sure what we're doing the rest of the weekend but hopefully we'll be getting ready for our trip to Wales.

Fantastic day - work tomorrow!

by happylady1 @ Sunday, 08. Jun, 2008 - 21:48:24

What a fantastic day we have had. The sun has been shining and it's been such a lovely summer's day. As mentioned me and hubby took my ma to Chatsworth today. We paid to go into the gardens and they are so lovely, great value for £7.50. We had a wander round for a couple of hours then hubby went back to the car and brought back our picnic which consisted of chicken and cucumber sandwiches (granary breadcakes), tomatoes with fresh basil, couscous followed by strawberries and yogurt, mmmm. We washed this down with a chilled bottle of fruit juice.

Hubby was entranced by the kitchen garden. He's a keen allotmenteer and we were all very impressed by the stuff grown in the garden.

We then went to the garden centre and bought quite a few plants. Ma always manages to part with a few quid whenever she steps into a garden centre.

Finally, we went to a meal at the Cricket Inn at Totley. The food was absolutely delicious, we all had a roast pork dinner. Hubby had treacle sponge and custard, ma had lemon brulee and I finished with a baked cheesecake (all washed down with a nice bottle of the white stuff). It was truly a great end to a great day and I'm sure one which all 3 of us will remember.

I'm working tomorrow (doing an extra day this week) but never mind me and hubby will be off to Wales for a few days next week so 4 get ups for me and then its chill, chill, chill.

Hope you've had a good one too!

Sunny Sunday coming

by happylady1 @ Saturday, 07. Jun, 2008 - 20:34:36

Well the weather men are promising us a warm, sunny Sunday - keeping my fingers crossed as we're taking my ma to Chatsworth tomorrow. Going to have a look at the gardens and probably go to the garden centre. We're going to take a picnic for lunch and then later on we'll go somewhere for our evening meal.

This morning I was a bit tired as last night 8 of us went out for a meal and drinkies so we didn't get in till about 12.30 am. Felt a bit worse for wear this morning, tiredness more than anything, but still managed to get the ironing done. Went to the supermarket after dropping R off at work and then hubby came home from work and did some more of the patio whilst I carried on creosoting the fence. The garden should look lovely when its finished but there's a way to go yet.

The strawberries are coming now and we should be eating them in a couple of weeks. Going to have a look at some strawberry recipes to see what scrumptiousness I can make with them.

Curry comments

by happylady1 @ Sunday, 01. Jun, 2008 - 19:00:38

Can't believe it. Had more comments today re my earlier post than I've ever had. Just shows what happens when you mention curry. Think its taken over from fish and chips as our no 1 UK favourite meal.

Curry night tonight

by happylady1 @ Sunday, 01. Jun, 2008 - 17:03:53

Hi ya blog folk. Hope you've had a good weekend, mine has been very good. Friday was my food shopping and housework day. After tea me and hubby went to the allotment and had a lovely hour on there sowing seeds and weeding.

Yesterday's weather was gorgeous and hubby was working on project patio. It's starting to look really good now. I watched the lovely James Martin in the morning whilst ironing and then after a yummy bacon club lunch went outside and started creosoting the garden fence. My sis did a family party last night for my nieces 10th birthdays. I can't believe C&E are 10 already. E is really shooting up now and I think she's got the tall family genes. Sis did a lovely salmon tea and lots of wine was drunk.

I thought today I might have a hangover but luckily a couple of paracetamols sorted me out. We went to see hubby's ma today. She wasn't too good and seemed to be in a world of her own really, hubby was quite upset when we came away. We only managed 20 minutes with her which seems awful but it really drains you.

This afternoon I spoke to my ma and invited her out with me and hubby next Sunday. We're planning on taking her to Chatsworth to have a look at the gardens and then we're going to take her out for tea at a country pub which should be nice.

I rang R as we're going out with her and D, L&S and some other friend's of R's on Friday for a meal. Not sure who the other people are but apparently we've met them before - just can't remember them. D's not having too good a time at the moment as he's not had any work for about 4 months now. He's self-employed in the IT industry and there's no contracts coming his way at the minute. R says they're coping money wise but they'll be finding things difficult if he doesn't get something soon.

I'm working tomorrow as I'm doing some extra days until we get our new person although I'm not sure when that will be. The bosses were shortlisting last week so hopefully by the end of July we might have someone in place. We've been having a series of temps for quite a while and to be honest most of the time its been awful. The boss had to finish someone last Friday, she was a nice lady but hadn't worked for 13 years and our dept is so busy that we simply haven't got the time to teach people skills. If I were her to be honest I'd enrol myself on a course to update my skills.

We're having an Indian feast for tea. Starting off with bhaji's etc, then chicken curry, rice and nan followed by strawberries and cream.

Going with R to the hospital on Wednesday. Hoping we can at least get a name for the condition which she's suffering from.

R&r have still not got their house yet but should be getting it in the next few weeks.

Well I think I've rambled on enough today so going to see what you lot have been up to. See you soon.
