Got to go to the dentist!

by happylady1 @ Monday, 29. Oct, 2007 - 17:25:14

Got a bit of a toothache. Dentist said in August that he thought one of my teeth might start to give me a bit of grief and he was right. Its one on the bottom at the back right hand side. Its not hurting all the time but boy when something hot or cold gets on it I know about it. Booked an appointment for this Friday morning and am sure not looking forward to it. I'm quite scared of dentists - not as bad as I used to be cos I think giving birth makes you realise dental treatment is not too bad but still. What's worse is having to pay for the agony of sitting there while someone whines away with the drill making that awful noise.

Had my hair done on Saturday by Sarah and she's done a good job. Not been out anywhere felt like chilling out a bit. I've been off today as this week I start my new job and from now on will work Tues - Thurs.

Went shopping to Meadowhall this morning and got daughter and her fiancee a cutlery set for their engagement pressie. Wanted to get one I'd seen at Next. They've just opened a lovely brand spanking new store and I thought they'd be bound to have one it but no! Instead they've got shelves full of Christmas stuff.

Anyway, came home and did a bit of ironing before I watched Loose Women. I just love Coleen, she makes me laugh so much.

This afternoon I've been picking some beetroot, making some celery soup and I'm just in the process of making a salmon quiche for dinner. Sounds boring I know but I kind of like twiddling about in the kitchen. I'm not too bothered about making sweet stuff but I love making soups and main courses.

So what's going on this week. Well I'm going to see Stardust with some girlies from work on Thursday. Been invited to a Virgin Vie part on Friday but I don't think I'm going to go cos I need my cash for Chrissie presents. We've been invited to an 18th birthday party on Saturday at one of our neighbours so that should be good.

Going to finish my soup off now - hope its ok. See you all soon. And as ever Life's a Gas :p

5 past 11 on Saturday night

by happylady1 @ Saturday, 27. Oct, 2007 - 23:08:41

My life must be boring at times. Can't even type this properly after a bottle of red. Come on this site to see what life's about and find gekos, eggs and stuff written about. Like who cares. Get a life. Can't believe it if the only thing to be wonderous about is if your gekko or snake has an egg that has hatched. Think you need another site to write on. Sorry to be a bit sanctomonious but this tosh has really got up my nose.:>

I'm going to a mother in law

by happylady1 @ Friday, 26. Oct, 2007 - 12:27:39

Can't believe it. Me and hubby went out last night, had a fab night watching an excellent local band. Called and got some chips on the way home. Walked in the house and our daughter told us that her and her boyfriend have got engaged. It came totally out of the blue. They've been going out for 3 years so yes we should have expected it but currently Reb is doing a course at Uni and won't finish till 2009 so I thought that nothing would happen till then.

Am absolutely OVER THE MOON. Rob is a lovely lad, and I love him to bits.

Its been an amazing week. Life just gets better and better. :DD

I'v e got a job

by happylady1 @ Wednesday, 24. Oct, 2007 - 21:43:43

I am so happy, and drunk, I had the interview today for the job I wanted and I GOT IT! Its been 2 years since I had my last mental breakdown. I worked in the NHS and decided to resign from the job I was doing due to work/personal reasons.

I decided to go temping and lo and behold my temping job was within the NHS whom I thought would never have wanted anything to do with me again. I've been temping in the same place now for 16 months and today got a job with them after informing them during the interview of my previous health history. I thought that would have blown it but they said they were impressed by my honesty. Just shows it pays to tell the truth.

Its been a difficult 2 years but someone has definitely been looking over me, haven't you Peter!

If you ever have the same health issue then believe me things can get 100% better, its the best thing that ever happened to me. You have to make changes in your life to move forward. As soon as you do this life just gets better and better.

Sorry if you think I'm wallowing in my own happiness - I don't mean to be self indulgent. If your'e feeling sad and unhappy at the moment then chin up, tommorrow's another day and things will get better :D

Am I too old to party?

by happylady1 @ Sunday, 21. Oct, 2007 - 18:41:23

I am so so tired. Had party last night and about 20 people turned up. As expected the blokes watched the rugger, shame England didn't win but what's new. Chilli went down very well as did the rest of the food that I put out.

My friend Nicola came with her husband Gordon. It was the first time they've been to our house so it was nice to have them with us.

We all drank plenty and hubby got up and started the tidying up this morning. Took a couple of hours but we're back to normal now. Someone dropped a bit of wine on my lovely beige carpet but thankfully it all came out.

Me and hubby had to go to bed for a power nap this afternoon - we're like two old farts. Mind you its great getting old with someone who you love.

Watched the X factor this afternoon. I love lovely Leona's new record its ace. She's so beautiful and talented. I think X factor are going to be pretty hard pressed to end up with someone as talented as Leona in this year's final.

Nine weeks on Tuesday till Christmas. Thought I'd just remind you of that.

Did my volunteering on Saturday and it was very busy but I enjoy doing something that is so different from my job.

Monday again tomorrow, never mind. I've decided that on my 4 days off next week I'm going to be a bit selfish and have a bit of me time. Want to make some jam and some onion marmalade and I just fancy doing my own thing. Having my hairdone next Saturday, normally have it coloured but this time I'm having some hightlights but in at the front so can't wait to see the results.

Have a great week. ;)

Busy week

by happylady1 @ Friday, 19. Oct, 2007 - 12:15:20

Hi everyone, has your week been busy like mine?

Had my interview on Wednesday and I've been offered the job which is great. Its a one year contract but its with the NHS so there's potential for it going on for longer. Went out for tea on Wednesday to celebrate. Also got some tickets for a gig me and hubby are going to next Thursday which I'm soooo looking forward to. Its a local band called Sharpcuts, you might have heard of them in the UK as they do gigs all over the place.

Went out with my ma yesterday. She had to go for breast screening and I went with her, after that we went into town and my daughter joined us for lunch which was really nice and so we had a good girly chat.

Been doing my housework this morning and I've got to go food shopping this afternoon. Will be doing my volunteer work tomorrow and then its our party tomorrow night which should be good. Going to make a chilli and I think the blokes will be watching the rugby for the first couple of hours.

Weather's supposed to be nice all weekend and I've promised hubby that I'll help him on his allotment on Sunday. Quite enjoy it getting some fresh air and doing a bit of gardening.

Am reading Jodi Picoult's Nineteen Minutes. Its a great book and will be a good one for our discussion group which meets again in a couple of weeks.

Arranged to go out with my mate for tea and drinks in town next Saturday and there'll be a lot to chat about as we haven't seen each other for a bit.

Got to go and hang out my washing now so have a good weekend and party, party, party :DD

Had a good weekend?

by happylady1 @ Sunday, 14. Oct, 2007 - 20:44:46

Hope you've had a good weekend.

Went to to pub on Thursday and won some beer tokens which we spent last night. Was disappointed because a singer was supposed to be performing last night but it had been cancelled, don't know why but I know pub's takings are down a bit since the smoking ban came in so wouldn't be surprised if landlord cancelled singer cos he can't afford it.

Went and did my first day's volunteering yesterday. Enjoyed it. Spent a lot of the time just chatting but that's okay by me. Going again next Saturday.

So what's happening this week? Well I've got my interview on Wednesday, going with my mum for a medical appointment on Thursday and we're having a party on Saturday. Think its turning into a rugby watching party but never mind the lasses can go in the conservatory and have a girly time till ruggers finished.

Started my Jodi Picoult book yesterday and its really good. Can see there will be loads to discuss when the reading group meet.

My daughter's gone to town for a Uni students night out. She'll be 21 in January and it amazes me when I was that age I was married but things are very different now.

Made a nice dessert for dinner tonight. We've been given some cooking apples so I found a recipie for apples with summer fruits it was lovely and very good for my weightwatchers diet.

Well I'm off to read my book now. Have a good week and I'll be back soon. :p

Quiz night tonight

by happylady1 @ Thursday, 11. Oct, 2007 - 19:36:32

Way hay its Thursday and its quiz night out our local pub. We've not been for quite a while as we've had quite a lot on so am looking forward to going and seeing the regulars tonight.

Received Jodi Picoult's book called Nineteen Minutes through the post this morning. I've bought if for £7.00 on ebay which isn't a bad price considering its a hardback. Its the next book we're reading for our reading discussion book and reading the synopsis sounds very good. I've read a couple of hers including My Sister's Keeper which is excellent.

So hubby's off work with me tomorrow and what are we doing. Well got to go looking for kitchen tiles, I need to get some new clobber for my interview next week so will need to go to the shops and my ironing pile needs sorting again. Think I'll be busy!

Looking forward to Saturday, its my first day as a volunteer worker and it'll be great to do something different. Starting at 10.30 until 2.00pm and I might have a browse round town on my way home. Going for a curry on Saturday night at our local indian restaurant. People I've spoken to seem to have enjoyed it so am going to give it a try.

The weather sounds like its going to keep fine at the weekend so think we might go into Derbyshire for a walk. Its lovely walking in the autumn looking at the different colours on the trees. Got to make the most of the fine weather now because winter will be setting in soon.

Its Christmas in about 10 weeks. Going to be having Xmas day at home with hubby and kids. Have bought 3 presents already and have some money saved up to get some more. I'm really looking forward to Christmas this year, not sure why cos my kids are 20 and 19 now but am looking forward to making Christmas dinner on my spanking new cooker.

Forgot to tell you I made a lovely fish pie for dinner tonight. Years since I last made one and I felt like making something different for a change. It was lovely, very filling - think I might make one next time we have friends for dinner.

Well I'm going to put myself in the shower now and tart myself up for the pub. Have fun. :lalala:

Upsetting people in high places

by happylady1 @ Tuesday, 09. Oct, 2007 - 20:01:03

Oh I've been so naughty. We've got a new development being proposed in our area and quite a few local residents are against it. We had a peaceful demo on Sunday and it wound me up so much cos no local politicians or local MP's were in attendance. Anyway sent a letter to local MP and received quite a stroppy email back. Never mind I'll get over it.

So how this week so far for you. Well I found out my brother and his missis are looking to move to the lake district. Currently they live on the same street as me so we will miss them but its their life and if its what they want to do then good luck to them.

Found out I've got a job interview for the posts I've applied for next Wednesday so keep fingers crossed for me.

Weather's been horrible past couple of days just want to go back on holiday. Some friends have gone to Lanzarote this week and are staying at the apartments we go to and I'm so jealous.

Booked a night out in a couple of weeks to go to the pictures with some workmates. We're going to see Stardust so that should be a good night.

Hubby's got Friday off this week so we're going looking for tiles for our kitchen. Had new kitchen fitted a couple of weeks ago and it needs finishing off.

Going to check my emails now - see you next time. Keep smiling :DD

Its Friday

by happylady1 @ Friday, 05. Oct, 2007 - 09:01:16

I'm a bit tired this morning. Its been a busy week. Went back to work on Monday and in a way it was nice to get back to normal. Found out I've been shortlisted for the 2 jobs I've applied for so now I'm waiting to get a date for interview.

Have joined a reading/discussion group and our first meeting was last night. We've been reading the Time Traveller's Wife and if you want a good read its a really good book. You have to give it some thought and at the beginning its a little confusing but nevertheless an excellent read. Our discussion was a bit limited as a few people hadn't finished the book yet but we're going to continue the discussion on at the next meeting. We've decided to read Jodi Picoult's Nineteen Minutes (I think thats what its called) this time and I'm looking forward to that (especially as Jodi was my suggestion for an author).

Tonight hubby's going out on a works do so I'll be driving him there and shall be having a quiet night in. I've been invited to an Ann Summer's party but its not really my bag so think I'm going to give it a miss.

Am going out for lunch today with my mum and daughter so that should be nice.

My social diary had been a bit bare for November but have managed to get a couple of things in it now - don't like to have too many blank weekends although we're having a quiet one this weekend which will be nice.

Going out on a protest walk on Sunday. Developers are wanting to build a new factory near us so a group's been formed and we're doing a walk - its supposed to be going to be on the telly so you may see me there.

Well its a beautiful morning today, I've got loads of washing to put out so am going to get on with that now. See you soon and have a good weekend. B)
